Recognition and Honours

As a recipient of local and national awards, Olson’s status as an artist has been well recognized. In 1991, Glenn won the prestigious Ducks Unlimited Alberta Duck Stamp Competition. One year later, he was presented with the exclusive Canada 125 Medal for his contributions to Canadian community and culture. He won both the Collector’s Choice and Best of Show awards at the 1993 Calgary Stampede Art Auction for Young Albertans - Foals, and again enjoyed dual victory at the 1994 show with the painting Stuck on You - Foal and Porcupine, winning the Artist’s Choice and Collector’s Choice awards. His Wings and Wonder - Golden Eagle and Foals captured the 1997 Collector’s Choice. Parenthood, portraying a mother lynx with five boisterous kittens, represented Manitoba in the 1997 Canadian Wildlife Conservation Print and Stamp program. Ducks Unlimited has chosen Olson’s Front Row Seats - Chipmunk and Blue Grouse as the 1998 Sponsor Print.

Olson’s works appeared in an exhibition of Western Canadian artists at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC. In 1994, he exhibited at the Vancouver International Art Show. Since 1994, he has exhibited at the Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show in Seattle, WA as well as the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede’s Western Art Show & Auction.

Glenn was chosen to design the collector’s pin for the 2002 Calgary Stampede Western Art Show. Also, he established a Canadian record for one artist when Ducks Unlimited chose five of his paintings to reproduce for the 2003 Federal DU Portfolio for fundraising across Canada.

Calgary’s Chickwagon group commissioned Glenn to create a painting entitled “Goosebusters” for their Stampede art auction fundraiser in 2004. “Goosebusters” is available as a limited edition print through Clearwater Publishing.

For the past two years, 2005 and 2006, the Cassie Campbell Street Hockey Festival committee has asked Glenn to design a goalie mask. The mask was auctioned at the Festival to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House – Southern Alberta.

With his painting "Lift Off!" Glenn became 2008 Artist of the Year for Pheasants Forever Canada Inc.
